Day 1: Arrival & Machame Gate to Machame Camp (1,640m – 2,850m)
After breakfast, transfer to Machame Gate for registration and a briefing from your guide. Begin your trek through dense rainforest, where you’ll encounter diverse flora and fauna. After a 5-7 hour hike, arrive at Machame Camp, nestled in a forest clearing, for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp (2,850m – 3,750m)
After breakfast, ascend out of the rainforest and onto the moorland zone. The trail offers expansive views of Mount Meru in the distance. A 4-6 hour trek brings you to Shira Camp, where you’ll relax, dine, and acclimatize overnight.
Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower (3,750m – 4,600m – 3,950m)
Trek towards Lava Tower, a volcanic rock formation, reaching an altitude of 4,600m. This is a key acclimatization point. After lunch, descend into the Barranco Valley, where you’ll camp beneath the iconic Barranco Wall. This 7-8 hour day provides stunning views and valuable acclimatization.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp (3,950m – 4,670m)
Begin your day by climbing the Barranco Wall, a challenging yet rewarding section of the trail. Traverse ridges and valleys, passing the Karanga Camp before arriving at Barafu Camp in the alpine desert. After 7-8 hours of trekking, have an early dinner and rest in preparation for your summit attempt.
Day 5: Summit Day (Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp, 4,670m – 5,895m – 3,100m)
Start the climb at midnight, navigating the steep, rocky trail under the stars. Reach Stella Point at dawn and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (3,100m – 1,640m)
