Overview

The Marangu Route is renowned for its moderate terrain, making it a favorite among climbers seeking a less challenging path to Kilimanjaro’s summit. Over five days, you’ll ascend gradually, giving your body time to acclimatize while enjoying the breathtaking scenery. Along the way, you’ll stay in cozy mountain huts, which provide an added level of comfort compared to camping. Accompanied by experienced guides and porters, this climb ensures safety, support, and a once-in-a-lifetime adventure as you journey to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters above sea level.

Itinerary

    • Day 1: Arrival & Mandara Hut (1,870m – 2,700m)
      After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Kilimanjaro National Park’s Marangu Gate for registration. Begin your hike through lush rainforest, encountering exotic birds and monkeys along the trail. After about 4-5 hours, you’ll arrive at Mandara Hut for dinner and an overnight stay.

    • Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (2,700m – 3,720m)
      Following breakfast, continue your ascent through the rainforest, transitioning into the moorland zone with its unique vegetation and open landscapes. This 6-8 hour trek ends at Horombo Hut, where you’ll have dinner and rest.

    • Day 3: Acclimatization at Horombo Hut (Optional)
      Spend an extra day at Horombo Hut for acclimatization, with an optional short hike to Mawenzi Ridge or Zebra Rocks. This day is vital for increasing your chances of summit success.

    • Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (3,720m – 4,703m)
      Trek across the alpine desert to Kibo Hut, a journey of about 5-7 hours. Along the way, you’ll pass iconic landmarks like the Saddle, a wide valley between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Arrive at Kibo Hut, where you’ll prepare for the final ascent.

    • Day 5: Summit Day & Return to Horombo Hut (4,703m – 5,895m – 3,720m)
      Start the climb at midnight, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak for sunrise. Trek through rocky terrain to Gillman’s Point before continuing to the summit at 5,895m. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Kibo Hut for lunch, then continue to Horombo Hut for dinner and rest.

    • Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate (3,720m – 1,870m)
      After breakfast, descend through the rainforest back to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to your hotel for a well-deserved rest and celebration of your Kilimanjaro achievement.
