Day 1: Arrival & Trek to Simba Camp (1,950m – 2,750m)
After breakfast, transfer to the Rongai Gate for registration and briefing. Begin your trek through farmlands and pine forests, enjoying the quiet surroundings and occasional wildlife sightings. A 4-5 hour hike takes you to Simba Camp for dinner and your first night on the mountain.
Day 2: Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp (2,750m – 3,450m)
Continue trekking through open moorland with beautiful views of Kibo Peak and the Kenyan plains. This 6-7 hour trek allows for gradual altitude gain. Arrive at Second Cave Camp, where you’ll acclimatize, dine, and rest overnight.
Day 3: Second Cave Camp to Kikelewa Camp (3,450m – 3,600m)
Trek through increasingly rugged terrain, passing unique vegetation and dramatic landscapes. The 6-7 hour hike leads to Kikelewa Camp, located in a scenic valley near giant groundsels. Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for higher altitudes.
Day 4: Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (3,600m – 4,315m)
Begin a steeper climb towards Mawenzi Tarn Camp, nestled beneath the jagged spires of Mawenzi Peak. This 5-6 hour trek offers breathtaking views and excellent acclimatization opportunities. Enjoy dinner and rest in this tranquil setting, preparing for the summit push.
Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut (4,315m – 5,895m – 3,720m)
Begin your summit attempt at midnight, ascending steep trails under the stars. Reach Gillman’s Point at sunrise and continue to Uhuru Peak, the roof of Africa. Celebrate your accomplishment before descending to Kibo Hut for a brief rest and lunch. Continue down to Horombo Hut, where you’ll have dinner and spend the night after 12-14 hours of trekking.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate (3,720m – 1,870m)
After breakfast, descend through the lush rainforest to Marangu Gate. Collect your summit certificate and celebrate your achievement with your mountain crew. Transfer back to your hotel for rest and reflection on your incredible journey.
