Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,200m – 2,820m)
After a morning transfer to Londorossi Gate for registration, begin your trek through the lush rainforest. Look out for wildlife such as monkeys and colorful birds as you ascend to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp. Trekking time: 3-4 hours.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 2 Camp (2,820m – 3,850m)
Leave the forest behind and enter the moorland zone, with its unique vegetation and expansive views. Trek across the Shira Plateau, passing Shira 1 Camp en route to Shira 2 Camp. This is a longer day of trekking, but the scenery is worth every step. Trekking time: 7-8 hours.
Day 3: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower (3,850m – 4,600m – 3,950m)
Ascend gradually to the iconic Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” approach aids acclimatization. Enjoy stunning views of the Western Breach and the Barranco Valley. Trekking time: 7-8 hours.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (3,950m – 4,050m)
Start the day with the thrilling climb of the Barranco Wall. Traverse ridges and valleys with breathtaking views before reaching Karanga Camp. This shorter trekking day allows for better acclimatization. Trekking time: 4-5 hours.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,050m – 4,670m)
Trek through the alpine desert to Barafu Camp, your base camp for the summit attempt. Arrive in the early afternoon and prepare for the final ascent. Rest and enjoy an early dinner before heading to bed for a few hours of sleep. Trekking time: 4-5 hours.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp (4,670m – 5,895m – 3,100m)
Start your summit push at midnight, climbing through the night under the stars. Reach Stella Point at sunrise and continue to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Barafu Camp for a brief rest and then continue to Mweka Camp. Trekking time: 12-15 hours.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (3,100m – 1,640m)
After breakfast, make your final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Collect your summit certificate, bid farewell to your team, and transfer back to your hotel for a well-deserved rest. Trekking time: 3-4 hours.
